2012 School Programs

‘Live Right, Feel Bright’ Program

The ‘Live Right, Feel Bright’ Program targets children in years 3 - 7. Getting children to exercise and eat right is one of Australia’s biggest health challenges and has been the subject of much discussion and media attention. Research indicates that the number of children who are overweight or obese has jumped dramatically in the past few decades, with almost one in four children at risk. Schools are a vital link in the communication of important health messages our program aims at delivering. This program will be conducted in schools with the assistance of curriculum resources, games, hands on activities, giveaways and also school visits from Crows Players and the club mascot. There are only limited spots available for this program so be quick to register your interest.

The ‘Live Right, Feel Bright’ Program is a 4 session program that is conducted over 2 days at your discretion. Our Community Development team will come to your school and deliver a specifically tailored presentation and physical activity demonstration for the students including:

Anne Martin Mypolonga Primary School

"The session was very well received by all of the school community. Claude was embraced by the students and they enjoyed his antics. The skills session was excellent and this was reinforced by a number of participants who sought me out afterwards to say how much fun they had with the activities presented."
Mike Cousins Redwood Park Primary School

"The Crows in school program was enjoyed by all students. They enjoyed cheering whenever the cheer sign came on the slide show. Claude was a big hit with the healthy eating game and high fives to the students. The healthy eating focus was appropriate and simple."
Karen Pettman Craigburn Primary School

"We visited the Westpac Centre and the students were very fortunate to tour the entire facility and gain a broader understanding of the rigors of being an elite athlete. The tour guides were excellent and were able to provide great insight into the daily routines and training programs of the Crows."
Kellie Casserly Loreto College

"The healthy eating messages were heard loud and clear by our students. As much as teachers tell them how important it is to eat fruit and veg etc, its great for them to hear it from athletes which they look up to, so they not only hear it, but they believe it and make changes themselves."
Amy Parker St Josephs Memorial School

"The multimedia presentation was very effective. The children enjoyed watching the crow’s players on the big screen. Claude was great. Made the presentation so much more engaging and entertaining."
Jason Chigwidden Pooraka Primary School

"Thank you from our students for your time and efforts to give them such a valuable experience. They all loved the Tour as they haven't stop talking about it."
Anthony Watson Enfield Primary School

"As a little school we often find it hard to get people to visit our school and we think that the Crows teams actually taking the time to visit us made our children feel like they are not missing out. Most times the big schools in Mt Gambier and Millicent get visited by sporting teams but not the little schools in the small towns. We would like to say a big thank you to the Crows team members that visited our school"
Graham Slarks Kalangadoo Primary School

"The nutrition program was great. The students were able to articulate what they learnt at the end of the session. Claude was fantastic with the children. It was a real highlight for them."

Premiers Reading and Be Active Challenge

In 2010, the Crows became and Ambassador team for the Premier’s Reading Challenge and the Premier’s be active Challenge.

Crows players know that it is really important for them to read and be active as part of a healthy lifestyle and they will be passing on this message to the school kids they meet. Players will also be encouraging students to participate in both the Premier’s Reading Challenge and the Premier’s be active Challenge.

There are lots of books on the Premier's Reading Challenge booklist about football in the Sports category.

Playing football is one of the fun activities you can do when you take part in the Premier's be active Challenge. You can collect the certificate and medals that you get for completing both Challenges.

Schools that take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge and Premier’s be active Challenge will be given preference for Crows visits.

More information is available on the websites, especially in the Ambassador section:

Nine A-side Football Carnival

Nine A-side Football Carnival

With the sun shining, not a cloud in the sky, a perfect 23 degree day and 16 different teams from 12 schools coming to participate in the first ever Crows In Schools Nine A-side carnival, we were set for a great day. Teams consisted of Three Redwood Park teams, two teams from Mount Pleasant, Largs Bay, Seaford, St Francis and St Raphael’s, and 1 team from Heathfield, Echunga and Ocean View.  With help from the SANFL to set up, and the Crows supporter group to run their famous BBQ Banquet we assured all participants nothing but the highest quality. A highlight for the kids was when all of the Crows Players came out to watch them play, give them tips and of course sign autographs. The overall winner of the day was Redwood Park B with Echunga coming second. In the battle for third, Heathfield defeated Redwood Park A.

Crows in Schools ‘9 a side Carnival’ – Term 3

The overall winners were Brighton Primary School who didn’t lose a game for the day. Thanks again must go to our Crows Supporter Group for cooking a sausage sizzle free of charge for the kids.
The schools who participated were:
• Holy Family
• Glenelg PS
• St Mary Mackillop – Wallaroo
• Woodville Gardens PS
• Two Wells PS
• Bute PS
• St Josephs Parish – Gladstone
