2009 season: Tony Armstrong made the step up to SANFL league level in 2009 and was close to AFL selection during the season. After finishing 2008 with a broken arm in North Adelaide’s reserves, Armstrong was a consistent league performer for the Roosters and regularly featured among their best players. He was an emergency on a number of occasions for Adelaide and travelled twice, to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Armstrong said he was pleased with his 2009 season and is looking to build on it in 2010. “I’ve looked at it as a successful year I guess,” Armstrong said. “I’ve come a long way with my footy and to be considered for selection was really good. I had a couple of trips away and it’s a positive step in the right direction with my footy and I’ve just got to try and build and hopefully I can take the next step.” David Noble’s 2009 review: “Tony had a good year and we were really pleased with him. He was a bit stiff not to get a run in the AFL because he played some really good footy at North Adelaide. His use of the footy improved throughout the year, so we’d be confident in him coming into the side to play on the wing or at half-back.” Career: Pick 58 in the 2007 Draft, Armstrong represented NSW/ACT in the U18 Championships in 2007 and played alongside Adelaide’s inaugural NSW Scholarship signing Taylor Walker. Armstrong is from a town named Burrumbuttock near Albury-Wodonga in country NSW. He played some games for TAC under 18 side Calder Cannons while boarding at Assumption College in Melbourne.
