2009 season:
Injury and form again kept Griffin out of Adelaide’s 22 during 2009 as he managed only two games with a total of 28 hitouts and 17 disposals. He struggled with a persistent calf injury throughout the season, returning to football through the SANFL with Central District but was unable to make his way back into the side. A strong pre-season will again see him vying against the likes of Maric, Sellar and Moran for a position in Adelaide’s ruck department.

David Noble’s 2009 review:
“Griff’s year was up and down and he needs to find that consistency again to really compete with Ivan Maric, James Sellar and Brad Moran. It’s not necessarily about the physical aggression side of things with Griff, it’s more about the aggressive running. He could link up as a midfielder-type player, so we need to see a bit more of that in his game. He had a calf problem towards the end of the year, which he couldn’t quite get right and he wasn’t able to put pressure on Maric and Sellar. Griff needs to get his body right and aim at being one of the top-two ruckmen at the club to get in our side.”

Career:
A former East Fremantle junior ruckman, Griffin was upgraded to the senior list for the 2006 season. Injuries to other ruckman gave him an opportunity in 2007 and he played 16 games collecting 142 hitouts and Adelaide’s emerging talent award. He started 2008 as Adelaide’s leading ruckman and played 12 games, collecting 202 hitouts but was struck down with a hip injury towards the end of the season.
