2009 review:
McLeod ended 2009 the way he started it with standout performances. Among Adelaide’s best in round one with 30 disposals, he was then heavily tagged throughout the first half of the season. He returned to his brilliant best in the latter part of the season with some best on ground performances including 31 disposals and a goal against Collingwood. His reputation as a big game player continued when he had 30 disposals in the Elimination Final against Essendon. Another milestone awaited McLeod in 2009 when in round nine he broke Mark Ricciuto’s club games record of 312. He had 310 kicks including 102 inside 50s (the 9th highest in the AFL) and 212 handballs.

David Noble’s 2009 review:
He turned back the clock in the second half of the year. Andrew is a consummate professional in the way he goes about his footy and he’s another one of those quiet workers behind the scene in terms of his leadership. I was pleased he finished off in the manner he did and hopefully we’ll see him running around again next year.

Career:
From Darwin, McLeod started his SANFL career at Port Adelaide, where he played in the club’s 1994 premiership. He was tied to Fremantle when it was forming its inaugural AFL squad but was traded to Adelaide in exchange for Chris Groom and made his AFL debut in 1995. His record since joining the club reads as one of the best in history. The winner of back to back Norm Smith Medals in the 1997 and 1998 Grand Finals, he is a three-time club champion in 1997, 2001 and 2007 and is the youngest and oldest winner of the Yellow Jacket. He is a five time All Australian in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2006 and 2007 when he was made captain. He was a close runner up in the 2001 Brownlow to Jason Akermanis by two votes. McLeod is also a member of the Indigenous Team of the Century.
