Jack Gunston booted five goals in Central District’s win over the Port Magpies in the SANFL on Saturday.

Gunston, the youngest player on Adelaide’s primary list (he turns 19 in October), kicked four of his goals in the first half and finished with 13 possessions and five marks. Jonathon Griffin was also a stand-out for Central, winning 23 hit-outs and working hard for 13 possessions.

Rory Sloane returned to the field for the first time since injuring an ankle in round one of the AFL season and did not take long to get involved. Playing for North Adelaide against top side the Eagles, Sloane played at half-back and through the midfield and collected 21 possessions. Rookie Matthew Wright was among North’s best, credited with 26 possessions.

Daniel Talia continues to improve at SANFL level with South. Playing in defence against West Adelaide, his work rate was high and finished with 16 possessions. His report noted the number of “half wins” created by his effort and pressure. Shaun McKernan rotated between ruck and the forward lines. He kicked two goals after strong marks, had ten possessions and 18 hit-outs.

In Friday night’s game at The Parade, Norwood’s Taylor Walker booted 3.3 from seven shots on goal and had 16 possessions. Defender Will Young once again minimised the impact of his opponents but still managed to pick up 18 possessions.

In the SANFL reserves, Luke Thompson (Eagles) had 16 possessions as a forward and Brian Donnelly (Central, 13 possessions) blanketed his opponent in the first half and also had a run in attack later.

Sturt had the bye.
