Rookie Aidan Riley was one of Sturt’s best in his SANFL league debut on the weekend.

In the Double Blues’ win over South Adelaide, Riley played a majority of the game at half back and collected 14 kicks including one goal, eight handballs and laid four tackles with his work in close a feature.

In the same game Shaun McKernan played up forward and in the ruck for the Panthers and had 22 hitouts and 12 possessions.

James Sellar made a return to the SANFL with Glenelg after recovering from his hamstring injury and helped the Tigers to a 39 point win. He had 10 possessions, six marks and kicked two goals in an encouraging display. Rookie Luke Thompson had 10 possessions and kicked a goal for the Eagles.

Rookie Matthew Wright was again one of North Adelaide’s best despite his side going down to Norwood. He had 26 possessions, seven marks and five tackles and was dominant early.

Rory Sloane had another strong performance in his second game back with 25 possessions and seven marks and used the ball very well from the wing. For Norwood, Will Young played in defence and gathered 10 possessions and seven marks.

In the SANFL reserves 2009 draftee Sam Shaw played his first game for the year with Glenelg and made an encouraging debut. He had 12 kicks, six handballs and five marks and used his height well in defence with his opponent having minimal influence on the game.
