Rookie Luke Thompson was again named in the Eagles best in their win over Sturt on Saturday.

Playing as a key defender, Thompson shut down his opponent and showed good offensive run, kicking a goal and finishing with 12 kicks, nine handballs and seven marks.

Jared Petrenko had a quieter day for the Eagles playing up forward and on the wing, but had a productive last quarter in defence and finished with 11 possessions and five marks. Aidan Riley started well for Sturt and was very good in close. He collected 10 handballs, six kicks and three marks.

In West Adelaide’s six point win over Port Magpies on Sunday, Chris Schmidt had 20 disposals and four marks in the midfield and was tagged for a majority of the game.

Shaun McKernan had a strong performance for South Adelaide in their narrow six point loss to Glenelg at Noarlunga. His ruck work was solid and he took some strong contested marks, one resulting in a goal. He finished with 12 possessions, four marks and six tackles.

Myke Cook had a run with role for the Panthers, ran hard all day and his defensive pressure was good. He showed good run and carry and collected 11 kicks, nine handballs and two marks.

In the SANFL reserves Brodie Martin played his second game back from injury for Sturt and looked better again. He ran hard all day on a wing and finished with 11 kicks, six handballs, six marks and a goal.

Jarrhan Jacky played in defence for the Eagles reserves and was tight on his opponent. He had nine kicks, eight handballs and five marks.

Central District, North Adelaide and Norwood had the bye.
