Will Young and Brodie Martin both made successful returns to SANFL league football on the weekend.

In his first game back from a knee injury, Young line up for Norwood in defence and played on former Crow Scott Welsh and held him well all day, while collecting 16 possessions and five marks himself.

Four Crows played for the Eagles in the same game but three of them suffered injuries. Chris Knights swapped on the wing and up forward with Brett Burton but came off during the second quarter with blurred vision. He returned in the last quarter and had an impact and finished the game with 10 possessions and two marks.

Brett Burton was lively and had one shot on goal on a wing until he hurt his shin, he finished with seven disposals. Jared Petrenko had 14 possessions and kicked a goal playing up forward but hurt his foot and will miss the rest of the season, Rookie Luke Thompson played as a tall defender and collected 16 possessions and six marks.

Brodie Martin was elevated to Sturt’s league side after two weeks in the reserves and impressed in his comeback. In their win over Central District, he played at half back and used the ball well, gathering 22 possessions.

Rookie Aidan Riley also had a solid game at half back for the Double Blues. He won the contested ball well and had 21 possessions and three marks. For the Bulldogs, Jack Gunston had a quieter game with eight possessions and two marks.

On Saturday night at Richmond Oval Shaun McKernan was one of South Adelaide’s best in their loss to West Adelaide. He kicked four goals, set up two others and had dominant periods in the ruck. He had 13 kicks and eight marks.

For West Adelaide, Chris Schmidt had a big influence in defence in the second half. His use of the ball was excellent and he collected 16 kicks, 14 handballs and took three marks.

In North Adelaide’s win over Port Magpies at Prospect on Saturday, Matthew Wright was solid for the Roosters, collecting 22 possessions and seven marks.

In the SANFL reserves, Jarrhan Jacky was damaging for the Eagles in defence. He had 24 possessions, seven marks and his skills and run from the backlines was good.
