Chris Schmidt and Matthew Wright continue to push their claim for AFL selection with two good performances in the SANFL over the Easter long weekend.

On Thursday night at City Mazda Stadium, Schmidt played in the midfield for West Adelaide in their win over Sturt. He had 23 possessions and his clearance work was again good.

In the same game, rookie Aidan Riley tried hard as an on-baller and at half forward, finishing with 16 possessions and he had three goal assists in the third term.

In the other game at Noarlunga on Thursday night, Tim Milera had 10 possessions, three marks and kicked a goal for Port Magpies playing up forward.

On Saturday Matthew Wright did his best to bring North Adelaide into the game against the Eagles with 31 possessions and two goals in the midfield and up forward.

In the ANZAC Day game on Monday at Adelaide Oval, Jack Gunston had a solid performance in Central District’s win over Norwood. He kicked two goals and had 15 possessions and four marks.

Will Young played his first league game of the year for the Redlegs and looked better as the game went on. He finished with 13 possessions, four marks and three tackles.

In the SANFL reserves, rookie Sam Martyn played his best game of the year despite the Eagles’ big loss to North Adelaide. Playing on a wing, he had 29 possessions and six marks, and his hard running and disposal by foot was very good.

Jake von Bertouch played mainly as a defender and had 18 possessions and six marks in a strong defensive game.

For the Roosters Lachlan Roach played on Martyn for a while and he had 18 possessions and two marks. Tony Armstrong had 12 disposals to three-quarter time but pulled up sore and didn’t play in the final term.
