Adelaide defender Kyle Hartigan is unavailable for selection in Saturday's Showdown XXXVI after an unsuccessful appeal against a one-match suspension at the SANFL tribunal on Wednesday night.

Hartigan was charged with striking Woodville-West Torrens' Jacob Templeton during Adelaide's SANFL trial match at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

The tribunal ruled Hartigan made "reckless high contact to Templeton with a swinging forearm/elbow".

The suspension means Hartigan is ineligible for selection at AFL level this weekend, and will also miss Adelaide's Round One SANFL clash with North Adelaide on April 6.

Under SANFL rules, Hartigan may still play in Adelaide's trial match against his former SANFL club South Adelaide this Friday night at Noarlunga.

The game begins from 7.10pm and is Adelaide's final SANFL pre-season trial before the season proper.
