South Adelaide made an impressive start to its 2014 campaign with a 49-point win over 2013 finalist West Adelaide at Noarlunga on Saturday night.  Keegan Brooksby starred in the ruck for the Panthers and Brett Eddy was dominant in attack, taking 12 marks and booting four goals.

Recruit Lachlan McGregor booted six goals for the Eagles in their 31-point win over Central District on Saturday. Michael Wundke, who joined the club from South, kicked three goals and veteran skipper Luke Powell starred but some shine was taken off the win by the report of Adam Grocke for rough conduct. Bulldogs co-captain, former Crow Brad Symes, received facial fractures and concussion.

Former Magpies star Zane Kirkwood starred for Sturt with 36 possessions in Friday night’s 43-point win over Glenelg. Sturt ruckman Angus Kurtze had 53 hit outs while Glenelg recruit Sam Lonergan won 29 possessions in his first game for the Tigers.

In Thursday night’s season opener, reigning premier Norwood showed that the loss of a dozen premiership players may not have a huge impact on the team’s performances in 2014. The Redlegs led all night against Port Adelaide, winning by 19 points.
