A handful of Crows posted personal bests in Adelaide’s narrow loss to Hawthorn on Friday night.

Patrick Dangerfield collected 41 possessions, including 27 contested, against the Hawks. The damaging midfielder won nine clearances, seven inside 50ms and four rebound 50ms and also laid six tackles, including a brilliant run-down of star Hawk Sam Mitchell which set up a shot at goal.

Brad Crouch also racked up 40 touches for the first time in his AFL career. Like Dangerfield, the 2012 Rising Star runner-up won nine clearances and also generated five inside 50ms and assisted in a goal.

Playing on a wing, Brodie Smith was free to amass a personal best 34 disposals. Smith ran hard between the arcs, creating seven inside 50ms and six rebound 50ms. He kicked a trademark long running goal and assisted in another Crows major.

Forward Josh Jenkins bagged a career-high five goals in Adelaide’s 12-point defeat. Jenkins slotted three of his goals in an influential third-quarter display. The former basketballer is now level with Eddie Betts on 34 goals for the season – ranked equal-11th in the Coleman Medal.

Acting co-captain Rory Sloane was instrumental, gathering 33 possessions, three clearances, two inside 50ms and setting up two Adelaide goals. Sloane also laid a team-high seven tackles. Brodie Martin and Matt Wright also worked hard both ways. Wright laid six tackles and also gathered 20 disposals, four marks, two inside 50ms and kicked a brilliant goal. Martin picked up 21 touches to go with six tackles, three rebound 50ms and two clearances.

Young centre-half back Daniel Talia held Hawks superstar Jarryd Roughead goalless for the first time since Round Five and only the second time this season. Roughead finished with a mere 11 disposals. Ruckman Sam Jacobs won a season-high 47 hit-outs to go with 16 disposals, three clearances and two inside 50ms.

The 12-point loss toHawthorn was Adelaide’s fourth defeat of the season by two goals-or-less.
