Collingwood could be bolstered by the return of Jamie Elliott and Ben Reid for Sunday’s crunch match against Adelaide at the MCG.

Elliott (hamstring) and Reid (quad/calf) would be welcome additions to a Magpies forward line that only managed five goals a fortnight ago against Essendon.

Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan has already been ruled out with a foot injury, while former Magpies skipper Nick Maxwell announced his retirement from AFL football last week.

Collingwood Director of Football Rodney Eade said the Pies were confident both Elliott and Reid would be available to face the Crows.

“We’re very confident Elliott will play this week. He was very close to playing the last game against Essendon,” he said.

“He trained very well so at this stage he’ll be available for selection.

“Reid has played the last two weeks (in the VFL) so he’ll certainly be up for selection and we’re reasonably confident he’ll be able to play this weekend.”

While Elliott’s injury has seen him sidelined for the past fortnight, Reid has not played senior football since Collingwood’s final practice match in March.

A combination of calf and quad injuries have restricted him to light duties for the majority of the year. Reid recently returned to the Magpie’s VFL side and booted two goals in Collingwood’s 31-point win over Werribee prior to the bye.

Defender Ben Sinclair is also expected to make a return from a hamstring injury but via the VFL this Sunday.
