The Fantasy Crows are midway through a tight clash with league leaders North Melbourne as the end of the AFL’s Fan Fantasy season draws near.

Fantasy coaches were spared another horrific Fantasy bye in the AFL’s Round 18 split round, with scores instead accumulating as normal throughout the fortnight.

It’s our last crack at the top-of-the-table Kangaroos this season. Our only win over North Melbourne was in the opening week of head-to-head matchups back in Round Three. The Roos have been our toughest Fantasy rival in 2014 with all three of our previous encounters decided by 40 points or less.

Another nail-biter is on the cards at the halfway mark of Round 18. The Fantasy Crows have had six players take to the field thus far for a total of 526 points, compared to a score of 785 points from nine players from the Kangaroos.

We are in with a good chance with several in-form uniques still to play, including Crows guns Sam Jacobs, Rory Sloane, Scott Thompson and Brodie Smith, along with Hawk duo Shaun Burgoyne and Jarryd Roughead.

The Roos will be banking on Tom Rockliff, Pearce Hanley and Jack Gunston to prop up their score this weekend.

The Club’s Fantasy experts made the call last week to trade out Cam Shenton for Port Adelaide cash cow Ben Newton. Ironically, Shenton was a late inclusion for St Kilda, but still failed to reach his break even.

Prodigious scorer Tom Liberatore was backed as our vice captain to exploit the ‘captaincy loophole’, but a meagre 76 points means The 19th Man must vote below on which remaining player we should lock in for double points.

A premium defender is on the shopping list this week for our final trade for the split round. Premiership Swan Nick Malceski and Skilful Lion Pearce Hanley look the most tempting targets.
