WEST Coast's injury woes continue with defender Brad Sheppard likely to miss Saturday's clash with Adelaide due to an ankle injury.

Sheppard was withdrawn from the Eagles' round 17 win over the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba with the same injury. He did not train on Tuesday and the Eagles' medical staff are expected to make a decision later this week on whether the 23-year-old can play again this season.

Sheppard has enjoyed one of his best years at West Coast. He has played 14 matches as a running defender, averaging nearly 17 disposals, and was rewarded with a two-year contract extension last week. West Coast's injury toll has mounted as the year has gone on.

Sharrod Wellingham's season is over after the midfielder underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, which he suffered playing for East Perth in the WAFL on Saturday.

The Eagles had already lost Beau Waters (shoulder), Scott Selwood (ankle), Matt Rosa (pectoral muscle) and Elliot Yeo (broken hand) to long-term injuries.

Yeo may return before season's end.

Luke Shuey (ankle), Ash Smith (thigh), Dean Cox (concussion) and Sam Butler (calf) all face uphill battles to be fit for the trip to Adelaide Oval.
