North Melbourne veteran Brent Harvey has been referred directly to the AFL Tribunal after being cited for misconduct against Bulldog tagger Liam Picken.

Tempers flared during the second quarter in a spiteful contest between the Kangaroos and Bulldogs which also saw Lindsay Thomas and Aaron Black charged for engaging in a melee.

Harvey will have no opportunity to accept an early plea in an attempt to reduce any possible sanction.

Midfielder Daniel Wells has also been hit with a pair of Level Two charges by the Match Review Panel for two separate incidents.

Wells was charged for rough conduct against Shaun Higgins for a fourth quarter hit on the Bulldogs midfielder, as well as a striking charge from the third term - also against Higgins.

Wells has a six-year good record and can accept an early plea to reduce his sanction, but would still miss Saturday’s match against Adelaide.
