New Crows coach Phil Walsh will take part in a leadership conference in Switzerland before returning to Adelaide for his first pre-season in charge.

Walsh, 54, was appointed as senior coach of the Club earlier this month. The respected former Port Adelaide and West Coast assistant started work immediately, assembling his coaching team and providing input into list management.

Walsh had a trip to Europe booked, but cut it short by a week following his appointment in order to be back at West Lakes when the full playing group returns for pre-season training on November, 17.

The four-day conference in Davos, Switzerland, focuses on the core elements and fundamentals of successful leadership. Walsh said the program would be particularly relevant in his new role.

“The Leadership Conference is run by the Boston Business School. It’s a three-unit course and this is the first unit I’m doing. It looks at leadership, so it’s fitted in beautifully with me getting this job,” Walsh said.

“I’d planned to go already, but it’s probably even more relevant now.”

Walsh, who didn’t get a break between finishing at Port Adelaide and starting at the Crows, is also enjoying some down time in Berlin, Prague and Italy before re-immersing himself in coaching.
