Andrew McLeod has closed out his playing career in style by helping the Darwin Buffaloes to a resounding 52-point win in Saturday’s Round Seven NTFL Premier League clash.

A healthy crowd at TIO Stadium saw the Crows’ games record holder lace up the boots for the final time, with many more also watching on via an online video stream.

Influential in Darwin’s first win of the NTFL season the previous week, McLeod was again among the Buffaloes’ best in leading the club to a 17.11 (113) to 9.7 (61) victory over the Waratah Warriors.

McLeod donned the No.12 for the Double Blues – the same jumper he wore when he played for the side as a youngster.

The three-time Crows Club Champion said it was an emotional experience to run out one last time in front of family and friends.

“I loved coming back to TIO Stadium after so long away and playing for my club the Buffaloes again,’’ McLeod said.

“The body is a bit sore and it has been a long journey in footy.”

It was a fairytale finish to what has been a decorated career for McLeod, who last represented his beloved Buffaloes in the 1994 NTFL Grand Final before he began his AFL career with Adelaide the following season.

McLeod would go on to play 340 games with the Crows, winning two premierships, two Norm Smith Medals and five All Australian awards among a lengthy list of achievements.

The Australian Football Hall of Famer declined the opportunity be chaired off following Darwin’s victory in a testament to the modesty of the 38-year-old, already igniting talk of a return to the field down the track.

“What’s in the future? We’ll have to wait and see,” McLeod said.

“Malcolm Blight used to tell us Crows boys you never say never.

“Let’s leave it at that.’’
