Kyle Cheney says coach Phil Walsh’s team-first approach will suit him to a tee.

Cheney, 25, has become a popular addition to Adelaide’s playing group since joining the Club in October’s AFL Trade Period.

The Crows have been pushed hard this pre-season under the guidance of new coach Phil Walsh.

Cheney said he welcomed the challenge of his first summer at West Lakes.

“I always thought Adelaide was a very hard-working team and we are already working very hard on the track,” Cheney said.

“I think that’s something that Phil has brought in, he wants us to be all very hard-working and striving together for the one goal.

“From day dot the intensity has been right up there. Everybody has been working super hard.”

Driven to make the most of a fresh start at his third AFL club, Cheney said his own values on football were closely aligned to that of coach Walsh.

“Phil’s big on team-first and no-fuss footy, and that’s what I think I can bring to the table,” he said.

“I’m not the most skilful player out there, but I’ll have a crack and put my head down and do whatever it takes for the team to get over the line.

“He’s very intense and he’s very set in what he wants.”

The former Hawk, who also played 14 games with Melbourne, said he was eager to work alongside talented talls Daniel Talia and Kyle Hartigan.

“They’re both very talented players and very strong in the gym as well,” Cheney said.

“Kyle is having a fantastic pre-season to date. Hopefully he can keep that up can cement a spot in that backline.

“I really feel like Adelaide is the place for me to stand up and play a role for the team.”
