Patrick Dangerfield has been crowned the joint winner of the recent Iron Man Sports Star Challenge series.

The two-part TV show assembled some of the country’s best athletes from a range of sports to determine who would be best suited to the rigours of an Iron Man race.

Dangerfield battled against a high-profile field featuring Sydney Swans speedster Lewis Jetta, cricket icon Simon Katich, Australian hurdler Michelle Jenneke and recently retired rugby star Beau Ryan.

The dual All Australian took out the final ‘mini iron man’ event and was named co-winner alongside NRL player Kurt Gidley of the Newcastle Knights.

A host of Iron Man veterans mentored the athletes as they were put through their paces, including four-time Australian Iron Man Champion Ky Hurst, Courtney Hancock, Kendrick Louis, Tanyn Lyndon and Ali Day.

The sports stars were first assessed in a series of benchmark tests before competing head-to-head on the sand and in the water of Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast.

Dangerfield excelled in many of the laboratory trials, topping the scores in his group for the V02 Max test and the Wingate power test. He also performed strongly in the bench press test.

The star midfielder then ruled the water in the swim heat, took out the ski race, and won the paddle board event.

Dangerfield followed up back on the sand as the best performer of the sports stars in a grueling 20m Beep Test, before edging out Gidley in the final challenge.
