Tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt and son Cruz were interested onlookers at Adelaide’s NAB Challenge clash with Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Thursday night.

The pair watched the game from the outer with Crows CEO Andrew Fagan, and even tossed the ball back to midfielder Mitch Grigg when the Sherrin bounced over the fence in the last quarter.

Lleyton and Cruz visited the change rooms after the game, chatting to coach Phil Walsh, captain Taylor Walker and Cruz’s favourite player, Rory Sloane. Six-year-old Cruz had spent the day doing a drawing for Rory, which he presented to the flattered midfielder in the rooms.

There were also some star struck staff and player families keen to shake hands with the Australian sporting icon.

Midfielder Richard Douglas said it was a buzz to see Lleyton in the rooms.

“Lleyton is such an icon of Australian sport and to have him supporting us is great," Douglas said.

"He’s always great to have a chat with after the game and we pick his brain about certain things. He’s been a world champion on the biggest stage and if the boys can get around him from time to time and learn a few things, it’s really beneficial for us.

"His little son Cruz’s favourite player is Rory Sloane, which is no surprise given the blonde hair. They’re welcome anytime and it was great to see them again.”

Adelaide’s No.1 ticket holder, Lleyton doesn’t get the opportunity to watch many Crows games live because of his hectic Tour schedule. But he rarely missed a match thanks to online streaming.

Lleyton only recently returned to the country after being part of Australia’s Davis Cup triumph over the Czech Republic in Ostrava. The Aussies defeated the European heavyweights to reach the Davis Cup quarter-finals for the first time in nearly a decade. Australia will host Kazakhstan in the last-eight clash in July.
