Thousands of South Australian school children will benefit from the Adelaide Football Club’s new health and well-being program.

Growing with Gratitude aims to help teachers, students and families develop habits of gratitude, kindness, mindfulness and happiness at home and in the classroom.

About 150 schools across metropolitan Adelaide have already registered for the sessions, which were developed by Adelaide primary school teacher Ashley Manuel.

The initiative centres on the Five Habits of Happiness which are:

-        Attitude of Gratitude

-        Random Acts of Kindness

-        Positive Reflection

-        Wellbeing Warrior

-        Operation Home Service

Speaking at the program launch today, Crows Chief Executive Officer Andrew Fagan said the Club was committed to engaging with Members and fans, and importantly the wider community, like never before.

“Latest research strongly links happiness with being grateful for what you have and fostering an attitude of gratitude can be linked to improved emotional and physical well-being,” Fagan said.

“We are determined to provide as many South Australian children as possible with the tools and skills they need to lead healthy, successful and productive lives.

“Our vision is to bring people to achieve great things and our enhanced and expanded schools program is a prime example.”

Marryatville Primary School is among the first in the State to experience Growing with Gratitude and Principal Angela Falkenberg said the program complements the school curriculum.

“This program reinforces the important work of schools in supporting young people to flourish through having positive physical and mental health,” she said.

“Our students have been practising kindness and gratitude this year and to have these skills valued and promoted by such powerful role models is both exciting and affirming”.

Crows Captain Taylor Walker said children are taught simple techniques to help them have an attitude of gratitude.

“It is important we teach children these skills and habits as it helps them develop resilience with every-day challenges in their lives, as well as giving them the best possible chance to succeed,” Walker said.
