Adelaide's SANFL side will be searching for back to back wins when it tackles the Woodville West Torrens Eagles at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval, Woodville, on Saturday.

While the Adelaide Football Club has historical and player links with all SANFL clubs, I believe their strongest connection across many different criteria lies with the Eagles.

In their respective 25th seasons, here are 25 reasons why …

1)      Same Foundation Year:  Both clubs were formed in late 1990 and are celebrating their 25th season this year.

2)      Bill Sanders: A South Australian Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Bill was both the inaugural chairman of the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club before becoming the first General Manager then Chief Executive Officer and later, chairman, of the Adelaide Football Club.

3)      The Inaugural 52:  The Eagles had six players in the Crows’ inaugural 1991 squad of 52 - Bruce Lindsay, John Klug, Romano Negri, Andrew Payze, Wayne Weidemann and Damien McCarthy.

4)      First Trial Game: Amazingly the first ever match for both clubs was played against each other. It was February 1 1991 and about 50,000 fans headed to Football Park for Adelaide’s trial against Essendon. But before that match the Crows “possibles” played the newly merged Eagles team in the curtain raiser. Adelaide won easily.

5)      Crows First AFL Match: There were three listed Eagles in the Crows first AFL match against Hawthorn on March 22 1991 – former SA and West Torrens captain Lindsay plus Klug and Negri from Woodville.

6)      Same Home Ground: Football Park was the home ground for both clubs in 1991 and 1992 before the Eagles moved their home games to Woodville Oval in 1993.

7)      National Draft: Since the Crows entered the AFL Draft in 1992 they have selected 20 Eagles, more than any other SANFL club. These are Nick Pesch (1992), Matthew Kluzek (1994), Adam Ugrinic (1995), Brett Burton, Ken McGregor (1998), Rhett Biglands, Justin Cicolella,  Robert Shirley (1999) Andrew Crowell, Hayden Skipworth (2000), Trent Hentschel (2002), Bernie Vince (2005), Brodie Smith (2010 and Nick Joyce (2011). Of this group, Burton played 177 games for the Crows, McGregor (152), Shirley (151), Biglands (134) and Vince (129).

8)      Rookie Draft: Three of those 20 were Rookie Draft Selections, Nathan Bock (2002), Jared Petrenko (2008) and Jake von Bertouch (2011). Bock played 113 AFL games for the Crows and Petrenko 76.

9)      Malcolm Blight: The most successful player and coach in Woodville history became known as “The Messiah” at Adelaide as the Crows premiership coach in 1997 and 1998. Now he is the Eagles’ Number One Ticket Holder.

10)   Best and Fairests: Two Eagles have won the Crows Club Champion Award - Bock in 2008 and Vince in 2009.

11)   Leading Goalkickers: Burton is the only Woodville West Torrens player to lead the Crows goal kicking but he did it twice in both 2002 and 2008.

12)   All Australians: Two Eagles have gone on to earn AFL All Australian honours at the Crows, Bock in 2008 and Brodie Smith in 2014.

13)   Eagles All-AFL team: In 2011 the Eagles announced their best AFL team over their first 20 years with eight Crows players being selected, more than any other AFL club. These were Hentschel, Burton, Vince, McGregor, Skipworth, Bock, Biglands and Shirley.

14)   Nearest Neighbours: Both clubs are based within the City of Charles Sturt, the Crows base at West Lakes located within the Eagles Metro Zone.

15)   Crows SANFL Home Games: The Crows two home games in the SANFL at Clare (2014) and Balaklava (2015) have both been located in the Eagles Country Zone.

16)   Phil Harper – The current Crows General Manager of Football Administration was not only a former Woodville player, he was also the Chief Executive Officer of the Eagles from 1995 to 1998.

17)   Scott Camporeale – The current Crows Senior Assistant Coach was an Eagles junior before being drafted by Carlton in 1994 and playing in an AFL premiership in 1995. He played 252 AFL games.

18)   Michael Godden – The current Eagles Senior Coach was drafted by the Crows, from West Adelaide, in 1992.

19)   Luke Thompson – The current Eagles co-captain was on the Crows list for four seasons from 2011-2014.

20)   Jared Petrenko – A current Eagles league player, Jared played 76 games for the Crows between 2008-2014.

21)   Brodie Smith – A 2014 AFL All Australian, Brodie has played 84 games for the Crows and was drafted in 2010 from the Eagles (Junior Club Henley Sharks).

22)   Sam Jacobs – Sam was an Eagles junior from the Ardrossan Roos before being drafted by Carlton and the traded to the Crows in 2011. He has played 114 AFL matches across both clubs.

23)   Cam Ellis-Yolmen – Cam was an Eagles junior from Flinders Park and was drafted by the Crows in 2011. He has played nine AFL games so far.

24)   Riley Knight – Originally from the South Clare Demons, Riley rose through the Eagles junior ranks and was drafted by the Crows in 2013. He played all 18 of the clubs SANFL games last year finishing second in the Best & Fairest count.

25)   The Next Chapter – Woodville-West Torrens are the only SANFL club yet to record a win against the Crows SANFL side. Adelaide’s unbeaten record against the Eagles will be challenged this Saturday at 2.10pm when the clubs clash at Maughan Theim Hyundai Oval. Entry is free for all kids under 18 and Crows ticketed members.
