The Adelaide Football Club has contacted the AFL seeking clarity around clubs resting players in the final round of the home and away season.

The League has replied citing the strictest interpretation of the rules allows for this to take place and in turn it has taken the position that the competition’s integrity is not compromised.

Many disagree, as we have seen from media commentary, as well as the vast number of Crows members and supporters who have contacted the Club, expressing their disappointment and concern. We acknowledge that all clubs are well within their rights to take advantage of the current rules, however, the question is should the rules be changed?

The AFL, quite rightly, continues to hold a firm stance on teams playing to their merits when positioned near the bottom of the ladder given the possible impact on draft selections. But the definition of integrity appears blurred when applied to teams in the upper echelon where results can potentially change team rankings and possible allocation of home finals.

As has been the case throughout the year, our Club will continue to focus on what it can control.

We have spoken about earning the right to play finals and improving and we will continue on that journey against Geelong this weekend and beyond.
