West Coast will only field 25 players despite searing heat predicted for Sunday's NAB Challenge clash with Adelaide at Unley Oval.

Reigning Eagles club champion Andrew Gaff, Sharrod Wellingham, Jamie Cripps and Andrew McGinnity have stayed home in Perth after being selected in the original 29-man squad.

Trade period recruits Lewis Jetta and Jonathan Giles will play in Eagles colours for the first time in the match at Unley.

Several of the Eagles’ bigger names will miss the clash with the Crows, including Brownlow Medallist Matt Priddis, Coleman Medallist Josh Kennedy, fellow forward Mark LeCras and lead ruckman Nic Naitanui.

But West Coast’s defence will still boast some solid experience, with key defender Mitch Brown set to return from a knee reconstruction, while rebounding backs Will Schofield and Sam Butler and former Hawk Xavier Ellis have all been named.

Two-time All Australian nominee Eric MacKenzie will not play.

Draftees Matt Allen, Luke Partington, Tom Cole and Jordan Snadden will all make their first appearances for their new club.

Forwards coach Justin Longmuir will coach the visitors, taking the reins from Senior Coach Adam Simpson for the first hit-out of the pre-season competition.

Under the extreme heat policy, the quarters will be reduced to 22 minutes and the players will now have eight-minute breaks at quarter and three-quarter time and 25 minutes at half-time.
