Fantasy records fell in Showdown XL as four Crows produced career-best figures in Adelaide’s big win over Port Adelaide.

Reliable backman Rory Laird led the way with a huge 136 from a match-high 33 possessions, 12 marks and a goal.

The score was easily Laird’s biggest of his career and backed up a handy 90 from Round One’s loss to North Melbourne. The former rookie is currently third of all defenders for total Fantasy points and his value has cracked the $500k mark for the first time of his career.

Laird’s reputation is growing with every game. He’s now owned by more than 15 per cent of the Fantasy community. With a generous break even of 60 heading into Round Three, expect that number to rise again in the coming days.

Fellow small defender Luke Brown also produced a Fantasy PB with a career-best 114 points against the Power.

Brown starred in defence, amassing an all-time high 26 possessions and six tackles in Adelaide’s 58-point win. The 23-year-old ranked fourth for all defenders in AFL Fantasy over the weekend and added an incredible $30k to his value in one hit.

He’s widely recognised as one of the best lockdown small defenders in the competition, so it was a pleasant surprise to see Brown near the top of the AFL Fantasy stats sheets.

By the numbers: Round Two

Second-gamers Wayne Milera (88) and Mitch McGovern (63) also topped their Round One scores and look solid cash cow options.

Milera has already added $18k to his starting value, while McGovern’s cheaper starting price has seen his worth rise by almost $40k through the opening two rounds. Both players are certain to increase in value again this week if they are named to confront Richmond.

Showdown Medallist Tom Lynch elevated his Fantasy standing with a 132-point performance against the Power.

Lynch rebounded after a disappointing 58 in Round One, banking his biggest return since ‘that game’ against GWS in Round Seven, 2013 when he kicked 10 goals. The former Saint was the second-best forward in AFL Fantasy for the round, only four points behind young Bomber Zach Merrett.

Expect Lynch to break the half-million dollar mark in the coming rounds.

Scott Thompson continues to produce the goods on the Fantasy front. The 287-game veteran notched 119 points from 29 possessions and 10 tackles in Saturday’s Showdown clash.

‘Thommo’ posted 12 Fantasy tons last year and is showing no signs of slowing down so far this season.

Eddie Betts was the fifth and final Crow to crack the 100-point barrier, backing up a 91 from Round One. The livewire forward had 17 touches, six marks and slotted five goals, and could’ve had an even bigger Fantasy score had he been more selfish in front of goal.

Fellow forward Josh Jenkins also deserves a mention for his 97-point performance against the Power.

The co-leader of the Coleman Medal race, Jenkins’ notched his best Fantasy figures since a 106 in his match-winning five-goal performance against Carlton in Round 10 last year.
