Scott Thompson was Adelaide’s only Fantasy centurion in the Club’s win over Richmond, rebounding from a horror start at Etihad Stadium.

Thompson actually fell to -7 points and was the lowest-ranked Fantasy player on the ground after giving away several early free kicks, but responded in style with a mammoth 119 from 28 possessions, two goals and a game-high seven tackles. It followed a strong Showdown XL performance, where the tough midfielder also posted a 119 against Port Adelaide.

He’s now Adelaide’s leading Fantasy performer with an average of 109 points per game and could crack the $550,000 mark with another solid showing this weekend against the Swans in his 250th Crows game.

Fantasy coaches continue to look elsewhere despite Thompson’s impressive start to the season. Surprisingly, he’s currently owned by less than one per cent of the competition.

By the numbers: Round Three

Milestone man Brodie Smith celebrated his 100th game with a superb 95-point outing against the Tigers from 26 disposals and two goals.

Smith was the third-best DEF/MID for the round just behind West Coast’s Elliot Yeo (103) and Geelong’s Jimmy Bartel (99). His dual-position flexibility has made him a common choice this season, with Smith featuring in more than 20 per cent of all teams.

It’s not hard to see why he’s so popular. Smith’s Fantasy standing is trending the right way as he approaches the prime of his career, with eight of his top ten Fantasy scores coming within the past two seasons.

There’s still time to make big money out of the dashing defender, so jump on him at $410,000 if you haven’t already.

Midfield trio Matt Crouch (89), Rory Sloane (88) and Richard Douglas (86) all had solid outings without breaking the triple-figure barrier, reflecting Adelaide’s even spread of contributors in the win over the Tigers.

Jarryd Lyons remains an intriguing Fantasy prospect after he notched an eye-catching 80 from 21 possessions and two goals in his first AFL game of the year.

Lyons has teased and tempted Fantasy coaches for several seasons, but has often had his output burdened by the substitute vest.

His latest effort was enough to pile on $14k in one week and he’s still cheap at only $261,000. With a break even of just 23 and FWD/MID versatility, Lyons could be a nice downgrade option should he hold his spot in the side.
