Tom Lynch enjoyed a far more relaxed build-up to Saturday night’s game against Sydney.

Last weekend, Lynch abandoned his pre-match routine when he received an early-morning phone call saying his partner Courtney had gone into labour. The forward got on the first plane back to Adelaide from Melbourne, arriving in time to witness the birth of the couple’s second child, Tayla.

With mother and child doing well, Lynch returned to the team to play the Swans, kicking three goals in Adelaide’s gutsy 10-point win.

“It was an interesting week. Obviously, (last Saturday) I got an early-morning phone call and had to head on home to be with Courtney,” Lynch said after the game.

“Tayla didn’t make it to her first game tonight, but it won’t be too long before she’s here. It’s all going well at home, which is great, and I’ll probably be sleeping at the Club a little bit more!

“I was really excited to be back and great to be part of such a great win.”

Lynch was involved in a team-high 11 scores at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

The 25-year-old’s third and best goal was a brilliant snap from ‘Eddie’s pocket’ under the old scoreboard. The goal regained the lead for the home team at the 14-minute mark of the last quarter.

“It was a lot of arse – a big fluke! But I was glad it went in,” Lynch said.

The Crows scored 113 points (16.17) on Saturday night – the highest score against the stingy Swans since Hawthorn in Round 16 last season. The Hawks and West Coast are the only two other teams to have kicked in excess of 100 points against Sydney since 2014.

Lynch was happy to be part of his first win against Sydney as a Crow.

“They’ve been a great side for a long time,” he said of the Swans.

“They’ve had the wood over us the last four or five times, and last year has been sitting with us for a long time; that big loss suffered up there (in Sydney).

“It was really pleasing to be on the winning side of the ledger this time.”

Lynch was one of eight goalkickers for Adelaide, and one of seven Crows to gather in excess of 20 possessions. Coach Don Pyke praised the even contribution across the board.

“It’s hard to sit here and say, ‘This guy was a stand-out’,” Pyke said after the game.

“We’re just getting a really good, even contribution of guys playing their role with a real team-first attitude. That’s what we’ve asked all along, and that’s what we’re getting.

“That’s creating the way we’re playing, and getting (us) some of the results.”

Although impressive, Adelaide’s performance against Sydney wasn’t perfect.

Pyke identified skill execution under pressure as an area for improvement ahead of the Club’s next game against the triple-reigning premiers.

“There’s a lot of real positives, but there are still so many areas we’ve got to continue improving on,” Pyke said.

“We’ve got six days into Hawthorn … and there’s no bigger challenge than Hawthorn at the MCG. We have to move on pretty quickly because we’ve got a big game on Friday night.”
