Adelaide captain Taylor Walker has dismissed suggestions he needs to be rested, saying he’s “not far away” from returning to form.

After being held goalless against Fremantle at fortnight ago, Walker had what coach Don Pyke described as a ‘nearly’ game at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

The two-time Crows leading goalkicker, who battled a foot injury early in the season, moved and presented well against the Western Bulldogs. He took a game-high four contested marks, and got his hands on a number of others. Walker only kicked one goal, but directly assisted in three others.

The foot complaint prevented the 26-year-old from training much in the opening month or so of the season, and he admitted his touch had suffered as a result.

“I know my game isn’t at the level,” Walker said on Triple M on Tuesday.

“My touch is off just a little bit, but I know I’m not far away.

“I’ve been doing a lot of work on that (touch) and I’ll continue to do so. I don’t need a rest. I’ll keep cracking in.

"Unless ‘Pykey’ wants me to have a rest, I won’t.”

Pyke agreed with his skipper, saying Walker would take his place in the team against Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

“I thought there were some really positive signs for him last week," Pyke said.

"He had a game where he quite could’ve easily taken another five or six marks. He’s in a really good headspace.

“His body is on the improve, and we expect it to be onwards and upwards from here.”

Walker sent a scare through the Crows camp when he came from the ground limping in the second quarter of Adelaide’s 15-point loss to the Bulldogs.

The forward sustained a knock to his left knee when he collided with Dogs defender Marcus Adams, but returned to play out the game.

“Just in a marking contest, I twisted my knee ... it was a little stinger,” he said.

“It actually scared me a little bit … it felt a little bit like when I did my knee a couple of years ago.

“His (Adams’) hip hit my ankle/shin bone and twisted my knee, but I’ll be fine.”

Walker has kicked 12 goals this season and has been involved in 50 Adelaide scores – level with in-form teammate Josh Jenkins.
