Adelaide development player Dylan Schoenmakers has won the SANFL’s Star Search award for Round 20 after an impressive performance against Norwood.

Schoenmakers, the cousin of Hawthorn premiership player Ryan, kicked three first-half goals against the Redlegs on Saturday afternoon to help Adelaide bank a 42-point victory at Coopers Stadium. The 19-year-old forward had 11 disposals, took five marks and also laid six tackles in the win.

Schoenmakers has played in Adelaide’s last eight SANFL games, kicking nine goals including six from his last three matches.

The talented teen has also booted 17 goals this year from 10 games with Division One club Tea Tree Gully in the South Australian Amateur Football League, including a bag of five in the club’s win over Unley.

SANFL Highlights: Round 20 v Norwood

Schoenmakers made his League debut with the SANFL Crows in Adelaide’s 2015 season-opener against North Adelaide.

He’s the first Crow to earn a SANFL Star Search nomination this season.

To be eligible for the award, nominees must be aged 21 or under and have played no more than eight SANFL games at the start of the year. Players suspended by the SANFL Tribunal are ineligible for the award. The Star Search Award winner at the end of the season receives a $2,000 cash prize.

Goalsneak Gene Robinson won Adelaide’s first ever Star Search nomination in Round 11, 2014 and reigning Dean Bailey Award winner Matthew Spencely was also nominated in Round 13 of last season.

Current Crows Rory Laird, Luke Brown, Mitch Grigg and development players Luke Carey, Brock Castree and Sam Pfeiffer have all been previously nominated while representing other SANFL teams.
