Adelaide’s Rookie Draft plans changed slightly on Friday night when it added a fifth player through the AFL National Draft.

Crows List Manager Justin Reid said the extra pick – which secured New South Wales forward Ben Davis – removed one selection at Monday’s Rookie Draft.

“We were committed to calling Sam Shaw (who retired earlier this month) and we were also going to call Ben Jarman as a father-son if he was available," He said. "So after drafting Davis on Friday night, that meant we passed on one rookie pick."

Reid said the Shaw re-listing decision was in relation to the pending Collective Bargaining Agreement and his access to welfare assistance.

Having nominated Jarman as a father-son rookie, the North Adelaide midfielder was officially the last of the Club’s three selections at 45.

Crows National Recruiting Manager Hamish Ogilvie said “footy smarts” were the feature of Jarman’s game.

“Ball in hand he is always calm, he is really, really conscious to make sure he gets to a teammate,” he said.

“He reads the game well. He’s only a little fellow so he’s going to develop size and strength naturally here.

“He’s had to endure a bit and show some resilience over the last two weeks, it hasn’t been easy, but we got the end result. He’s got an opportunity now to show us all what he can do.”

Adelaide now has five rookies who will be at the club for the 2017 season. Jarman joins Jonathon Beech and Paul Hunter while Hugh Greenwood and Alex Keath are second-year Category B rookies.
