Against Richmond in Sunday night's blockbuster, Eddie Betts can become just the fifth active player to reach 500 AFL goals.

Ahead of the milestone, we presented you with the unique challenge of judging Betts' very best.

The results are in the video above.

To toast Betts' milestone, here we take a statistical look at one of footy's most brilliant forwards, and the free agency move which transformed his career.

To join the 500 club on Sunday, Betts needs just two goals (Tiger Jack Riewoldt, on 497, can join him in the same game).

That's a touch above his career average of 1.9 goals per game, but short of the rate at which he's been banging them in since switching from Carlton in October 2013.

Back in his home state, Betts has thrived

117 of his 498 goals have come at Adelaide Oval, where he returns for Sunday's match against the Tigers.

A classic small forward, he preys on the loose ball.

As millions of footy fans can attest, he loves the boundary

He has kicked 27.9 per cent of goals from the pockets.

At Adelaide Oval, the right-forward pocket at the Cathedral end will be forever known as the 'Betts pocket'. He nails them running away from goal, over his shoulder, from impossible angles beyond the paint.

Three times, he's won Coates Hire Goal of the Year

That includes his two most prolific seasons, 2015 and 2016.

Remarkably both his recent winning goals, including Betts' No.1 goal as voted by fans in his top 10 video, were kicked from his 'unfavoured' pocket.

Though really with Betts, no spot within the arc is beyond him.

At 30, he's playing his best football

Opponents have learned to their cost he's never fully contained, and he loves feasting on weary defences.
