Adelaide defender Brodie Smith faces a fitness test on his injured hamstring ahead of Saturday night's clash with an in-form Fremantle at Adelaide Oval.

Smith was restricted to light running at the team's main training session on Wednesday morning.

"Brodie's got a little bit of work to do in the next couple of days," Crows coach Don Pyke said.

"He was doing some running today and he completed that really well, up to nearly max speed.

"He'll have to do some more ball work later in the week.

"We'll assess that in terms of what his awareness is tomorrow, how he moves, or Friday, depending on when we decide to run him.

"We're pretty positive on him at the moment."

Smith tweaked his hamstring during the Crows' 80-point thumping of the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba last weekend.

Forward Troy Menzel didn't train and will miss another week with a corked glute.

The Crows will have to make at least one forced change, with midfielder Curtly Hampton sidelined for an extended period with an ankle injury.

David Mackay, who was the emergency last weekend, is the likely replacement, but 307-game veteran Scott Thompson (30 possessions) and uncapped third-year midfielder Harrison Wigg (38 possessions) pushed their claims in the SANFL.

Midfielder/forward Riley Knight (corked thigh) completed training and is available.

Key forward Josh Jenkins will also come into consideration for an instant recall after booting four goals against West Adelaide.

Jenkins was dropped for the game against the Lions after struggling since coming back from fractured ribs sustained in the round two win against Hawthorn.

"It certainly wasn't about hitting the scoreboard, it was about some of the key areas we see with Josh when he's playing his best footy," Pyke said.

"With the rib injury and the time out, we just felt when he returned to play, his form and maybe part of that becomes confidence, wasn't at the level to perform in the AFL.

"We gave him the opportunity to go back and he embraced it, he had a great attitude and he brought really strong effort, which is what we're after.

"He's proven over a number of years he's a quality AFL player, so it's about him getting back to that form to be able to deliver that on an AFL stage."

The 28-year-old booted 62 goals last season, and signed a five-year contract extension until the end of 2021.

The League-leading Crows face a Dockers' side full of confidence, with Fremantle winning six of its past seven games.

However, the Dockers will have a battle to get first use of the ball after veteran big man Aaron Sandilands was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Back-up ruckman Jonathon Griffin will have his hands full containing Sam Jacobs, who has been outstanding for the Crows this season.

"It's a little change and we've got to adapt around that, but it probably does help," Pyke said.

"If they're not the form team in the competition, they're right up there.

"It's going to be another great challenge for us."
