Taylor Walker and Jake Lever shared top honours in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award for Round 16.

Walker and Lever each received nine votes from coaches Don Pyke and Luke Beveridge in Adelaide’s 59-point win over the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.

Walker kicked three goals from 18 possessions, including a career-high 13 contested possessions. The Crows captain also took seven marks and generated five inside 50ms.

At the opposite end of the ground, Lever amassed 22 possessions at 91 per cent efficiency. He also hauled in 11 marks and had seven rebound 50ms.

The leading goalkicker in the game, Josh Jenkins received five votes. Jenkins finished with four goals and took a personal-best 13 marks to go with 15 disposals.

Young midfielder Matt Crouch polled another three votes to improve his season tally to 27. Crouch gathered an equal-game high 32 possessions, three clearances and kicked a goal.

Wingman Rory Atkins, who gathered 23 possessions, six rebound 50ms and a goal, attracted two votes.

Backmen Jake Kelly and Rory Laird (one vote each) rounded out the voting.

Laird equalled Crouch’s effort of 32 disposals and ranked fifth for metres gained (646) for the round.

Kelly won 17 possessions at 88 per cent efficiency. He applied a game-high nine tackles, took eight marks and effected eight spoils. The former rookie didn’t concede a goal to his direct opponent according to Champion Data statistics.

Only four players received maximum votes on the weekend: Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe, Hawthorn onballer Tom Mitchell, Sydney Swans forward Gary Rohan and underrated St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross.

Reigning Brownlow Medallist Patrick Dangerfield, who polled nine votes in Geelong’s big win over the Brisbane Lions, has overtaken Richmond star Dustin Martin at the top of the overall leaderboard.

Vice-captain Rory Sloane is the highest-ranked Crow (eighth) with 53 votes.
