Adelaide vice-captain Rory Sloane will increase his training load on Wednesday as he attempts to prove his fitness for Thursday night’s Qualifying Final against Greater Western Sydney.

Sloane, 27, had surgery to remove his appendix last Tuesday and is recovering well.

“I’m starting to feel really good, actually,” Sloane told Facebook Live: Inside the Four Walls.

“The pain has started to disappear.

“Now, it’s just about building strength back up through the guts.”

Sloane completed a session on a stationary bike on Monday and progressed further on Tuesday.

“I’ve had plenty of time to rest up and make sure it heals properly,” he said.

“(I’ve done) plenty of powerwalking and a slight little jog today (Tuesday) and a bit on the elliptical.

“We’ve still got about two-and-a-half days before we play. I think tomorrow I’ll really start to ramp things up, start running again and we’ll just assess it from there and see how I feel.”

Coincidentally, Crow Eddie Betts had an appendectomy only six weeks ago.

Betts healed quickly and played 13 days after surgery.

The courageous Sloane is attempting to play on the ninth day, but a decision on his availability will be made in consultation with medical advice.

Sloane said he would give himself every chance to play against the Giants.

“We’ll see how it goes tomorrow,” he said.

“Even after (training) tomorrow, we’ve got another 24 – 30 hours before game time so I’ve got plenty of time still.”
