Rookie Ben Jarman regularly seeks advice from his father, two-time Adelaide premiership star Darren, about his game.

Picked as the Club’s first ever father-son selection in 2016’s AFL Rookie Draft, Jarman has played every game for the SANFL Crows since he arrived at West Lakes.

Personal highlights this season include his games against South Adelaide and North Adelaide earlier in the year, where his pressure acts and tackling often forced opposition turnovers. His persistent effort led to three goals in last week’s 16-point loss to Central Districts.

The 20-year-old believes he is hitting form now after focusing on his consistency and kicking throughout the 2018 season, with constant feedback from his father.

“I’ve been continuing to work on putting some size on in the gym, as well as continuing to work on my kicking and hitting various kicks, as well as a bit of on field leadership and communication stuff,” Jarman said.

“I’m still getting bits of advice from Dad, he helps review my games sometimes and continues to help me with a few different things on the field.”

His dad isn’t the only family member heavily involved in Jarman’s season, with fellow rookie and maternal cousin Jackson Edwards playing alongside Jarman for most of the season.

Edwards, the Club’s only other father-son pick after his father Tyson played 300 games for the Crows, is currently out of the side with an ankle injury.

However, the pair often set up each other’s shots on goal when they do take the field together after years of practice when they were younger.

“It’s been great fun playing with ‘Jacko’, I haven’t really played with him properly since primary school,” Jarman said.

“It is good to put on the guernsey with him and hopefully he can get back for the last month of the season.”

Jarman returns to Prospect Oval on Saturday to face his old side North, where he played three League games in 2016.

He is expecting a tough contest against his former teammates but will use the opportunity to maintain his strong run of form.

“They are in pretty good form actually, they are a good outfit, it will be good to go back playing against a few of my mates,” Jarman said.

“Hopefully we can get a few more wins as a team and I keep building on my form and continue to put my hand up for AFL.”

Adelaide’s clash with the Roosters will get underway at 2.10pm on Saturday afternoon.
