Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron reflects on the Giants’ 14-point win over Adelaide on Saturday night …

On injuries and some luck…

On the back of last week, the guys were worried about coming into this on a six-day break. We had five out… the positive side was we had five fresh guys coming in, but still 17 out there from last week which probably took its toll.

Our first half we were a little bit off. Our basic fundamentals were clearly a little bit off and Adelaide were playing some great footy, so we were a little bit lucky they didn’t punish us a little bit more.

Going in four-points down at half-time probably didn’t tell the full tale and they probably should’ve been up more.

On Taylor Walker’s tackle…

Firstly, there’s no doubt, anyone comes off concussed they’re going to feel a little bit. There’s no doubt he’s got a bit of a headache. He’s a tough cookie. He’s not just an outstanding footballer, he puts his head over the footy every weekend.

Look, the tackles happen. I think one thing in footy these days that I reckon clubs have gone above and beyond, all 18 clubs, is this sling tackle. It’s going to happen every now and again because of the way we do tackle but… these things are going to happen.

If there’s a report, there’s a report but we can’t sit back here and look at one incident and say the sling tackle’s back because I reckon all 18 clubs have gone a long way to getting it right.

On playing a man down…

I know there’s a hot topic about this red card system. My opinion is I don’t think we’re there because our game’s a brutal game, but it’s not that brutal…

I know we’re on the back of last week with the [Andrew] Gaff incident and we had the Jeremy Cameron incident with [Brisbane’s] Harris Andrews, but the game’s in fantastic nick. I don’t want to look at all the negatives that are going on. What I want to comment on is the positive output that our players produced again tonight under an enormous amount of stress because of the injuries we had so that makes me very proud of our boys.
