Dr Jones & Partners Injury Update: R23 GM of High Performance Matt Hass talks about the health of the list heading into round 23.

Adelaide key defender Daniel Talia will face a fitness test this week as he aims for selection in the side set to take on Carlton at the MCG this Saturday night.

Talia must overcome a leg injury that has kept him out of the side since Showdown 45 in Round 20.

General Manager of High Performance Matt Hass said the tall defender was a fifty-fifty chance of making selection.

“Talia continues to progress pretty slowly with his leg injury… we’ll give him every opportunity to get up but similar to last week he needs a fair bit to go right,” he said.

Half-back Brodie Smith, who was a late withdrawal from Sunday’s match due to a corked calf, also faces a test for selection this week.

Rising star contender Tom Doedee has been ruled out for the final match of the home and away season with a fractured collarbone.

Doedee collected the injury following a head-on collision with North Melbourne’s Jed Anderson during Adelaide’s nine-point win over the Kangaroos on Sunday.

“Unfortunately for Tommy, he fractured his collarbone in that collision… he’s seen the surgeon, so he’s booked in for next week and that’ll end his season,” Hass told AFC Media on Tuesday.

Skipper Taylor Walker (foot) and defender Kyle Hartigan (knees) both underwent surgery in the past week to address their ongoing injuries.

Hass said Tex had struggled with his plantar fascia for most of the year.

“We managed his training and match loads but unfortunately it (the injury) never reached a point where we were happy with it so we took the opportunity with his suspension to get that operated on so he can have a good, healthy full pre-season next year,” Hass said.

Hartigan has been sidelined with his knee injuries since Round 17 against Geelong.

“Similar to Tex, we decided to get Harto’s knees operated on so a few minor things could be cleaned up on both sides and again get him a head of the curve and ready for a full pre-season,” Hass said.
