New Crow Katelyn Rosenzweig will wear the No. 1 guernsey in 2019, in honour of her late friend, Maggie Varcoe.

Rosenzweig and Varcoe were teammates at North Adelaide in the SANFLW before Varcoe sadly passed away in August.

“To have number one, after everything that happened with Maggie, it’s an absolute privilege. The number means a lot to me and I will be playing every game for her in this guernsey,” Rosenzweig said.

“I knew the moment I got picked that Maggie would’ve been so happy and proud, because she always was.

“She taught me a lot about football and life in our car trips to and from footy and I’m so thankful for being able to know her.”

Rosenzweig was one of 10 new Crows to be assigned their numbers this week.

Adelaide’s first pick in the 2018 Draft, Nikki Gore, will wear No. 7, a number she holds dear.

“I chose number seven for my faith… it’s the number of spiritual perfection and, in everything I do, I want my actions and spirit to recognise God,” Gore said.

A number of the players followed in their family’s footsteps, with No. 37 pick Chloe Scheer choosing number four, the same number her Dad wore when he played football.

Dual-sport athlete Maisie Nankivell picked No. 12 for similar reasons.

“Number 12 is pretty special to me because that was the number that my dad wore playing footy, as well as my older brother during his junior footy,” Nankivell said.

“As soon as I was given the option of picking that number, it just made sense.”

Old is new for some of the recruits, with draftee Jessica Foley choosing No. 24, the same number she wore when captaining Adelaide Lightning in the WNBL and when she attended Duke University in the US.

After being the Club’s first-ever Women’s trade, Renee Forth will retain No. 27, which she wore at Greater Western Sydney.

The Club’s other off-season recruit, Sophie Li from Carlton, will wear No. 19.

Danielle Ponter, Adelaide’s draftee from the Northern Territory, will don the No. 15 guernsey in season 2019, while speedy SA-local Hannah Martin will wear number six.

Irish rookie Ailish Considine has worn a variety of different numbers throughout her Gaelic football career, but she will start her AFL journey in No. 16.
