Women will represent the Crows in winter for the first time in 2019, with two Crows versus Port SANFL Showdowns to be held throughout the SANFL season.

The exhibition series will see the best talent in the SANFLW represent the two teams, under the same SANFL alignment as the Next Generation Academies.

Adelaide’s team will consist of draft hopefuls from Sturt, Glenelg, North Adelaide and Central District.

Both games will be held as a curtain raiser prior to SANFL matches, with Adelaide hosting Port at City Mazda Stadium on Saturday, June 8 before the SANFL Crows take on West Adelaide.

Port will then host the second game on Sunday, July 21 at Alberton.

The new series will provide the stars of the SANFL Women’s League an elite AFL club experience and the chance to showcase their ability ahead of the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.

Adelaide Football Club’s General Manager of Football Administration, Phil Harper, said the game would be important for the Club’s recruiting heading into the 2020 AFLW season.

“These games will be a great opportunity for aspiring AFLW players to show their ability against all the best players in the SANFL,” he said.

“The Club is committed to growing the game in both South Australia and the Northern Territory and helping young girls fulfil their football dreams.”

While Adelaide has been in the AFLW competition since it started in 2017, this series will be the first time Port Adelaide will be represented by women.

Adelaide’s AFLW season will get underway on Saturday, February 3 at Norwood Oval.
