Adelaide has applied to the AFL to add 23-year-old former US College basketballer Ben Dowdell to the club’s rookie list under the League’s ‘alternative talent’

Recruited under the AFL’s ‘Alternative Talent’ rule, the former basketballer showed significant improvement in his first year at the Club. The aggressive 200cm, 100kg, ruckman made his league debut for South Adelaide early in the season and continued to display good progress until an ankle injury put an end to his season in August.
Dowdell joined Adelaide’s rookie list under the AFL’s ‘alternative talent’ rule. The 201cm, 98kg, athlete played four years of College basketball for Santa Clara in the NCAA Division One West Coast Conference. Given his athleticism and competitiveness the 23-year-old, who only played a handful of Australian Football games as a teenager, has enormous potential and has already showed significant improvement since arriving at West Lakes.
