The young defender rebounded from the disappointment of missing out on finals last year to play every game of Season 2016. He became an important player in the Crows’ back six, supporting fellow talls Daniel Talia and Kyle Hartigan. A strong reader of the play, Lever ranked sixth in the AFL for intercept possessions (176) and also launched a Club-high 27 goals for the season from defence. Kicked his first AFL goal in Round 21 against Fremantle and earned himself a Goal of the Year nomination.

Season by Season

Adelaide’s first pick (No.14 overall) in the 2014 National Draft, Lever exceeded all expectations in his debut AFL season, playing 12 games. The competitive and composed defender, who missed all of 2014 after rupturing his ACL at AIS-AFL Academy training, made his comeback in an SANFL trial in April. Lever forced his way into the senior Crows team after only four games in the State League, selected to make his AFL debut against Gold Coast in Round Six. He earned a Rising Star nomination for his standout performance in Adelaide’s Round 17 win over the Suns and was rewarded with a contract extension. Followed in the footsteps of mentor Daniel Talia by winning the Dr Brian Sando OAM Trophy, which recognises outstanding and professional attention to detail.

Season by Season

Selected with Adelaide’s first pick (No.14) in the 2014 AFL National Draft, Lever is a competitive and aggressive backman, who hates getting beaten. He can shut down an opponent while also providing good rebound and has excellent leadership skills, having captained Victoria Metro as a 17-year-old. Missed the entire 2014 season after rupturing his ACL at training with the AIS-AFL Academy, but showed professionalism in his approach to rehabilitation and will be ready to go in 2015.
