The tough midfielder played a career-best 13 games for the year, but started nine of them as the substitute. When provided the opportunity, Lyons proved he has what it takes to play at AFL level with his ability to win contested possessions and hit the scoreboard the main features of his game. Dominated at SANFL level in 2015 and will be eager to establish himself in Adelaide’s best 22 without the burden of the subs vest.

Lyons showed he belongs at AFL level in 2014, notching a career-high 10 AFL games. He averaged 28 disposals, nine clearances and a goal in his first six SANFL appearances to earn greater opportunities in the senior Crows team in the second half of the year. The inside midfielder starred in Adelaide’s thrashing of Brisbane at the Gabba in Round 20, collecting 26 possessions, six clearances and a goal and also booted five goals across the Club’s final two games. The Victorian resisted interest from rival clubs to re-sign with the Crows for a further two years, and will be targeting a permanent spot in Adelaide’s best 22 in 2015.

Season by Season

After getting a taste of AFL football in 2012, the young midfielder added another nine games to his tally in 2013. A stoppage specialist and prolific ball winner, Lyons also demonstrated an ability to play as a forward, kicking a career-high four goals against Collingwood on the MCG stage in Round 16. Moving into his fourth year at West Lakes, Lyons will be out to cement his place in the team.

Season by Season

Lyons played three AFL games in his second season at West Lakes, and could’ve played more if not for a foot injury and Adelaide’s settled senior line-up. The inside midfielder made his debut against Port Adelaide in Round Five, displaying clean hands and football smarts around the stoppages. He was squeezed out of the team in Round Eight, but continued to show strong form for SANFL club Glenelg and was rewarded with a new deal with the Crows.

Season by Season

Adelaide’s youngest-listed player in 2011, Lyons played several quality senior games for SANFL club Glenelg before tiring towards the end of his first season in the AFL system. The 19-year-old has clean hands, excelling with his in-close work at the stoppages. With another full pre-season under his belt, Lyons will be one of a number of young Crows looking for an opportunity in 2012.
