A fractured leg robbed Johnston of a near-certain call-up to the Adelaide side when Taylor Walker went down injured early in the season. The straight-shooting forward spent two months on the sidelines, receiving a long-awaited AFL recall in Round 19. He kicked 11 goals in his last five games and slotted a career-best six goals, including the final-ever goal by a Crow at AAMI Stadium, against Melbourne in Round 22.

Season by Season

Recruited from Sydney during the 2011 trade period, Port-Pirie product Johnston earned an opportunity against Fremantle in Round 20. He was limited to only one match, but displayed strong form for North Adelaide in the local league. The neat-kicking utility booted 57 goals in the minor round to finish second in the SANFL goalkicking and was a dominant force throughout the finals series.

Season by Season

A first-round draft pick (No.12) in 2008, Johnston was limited to two games in three seasons with the Sydney Swans and jumped at the opportunity to return to his native South Australia as part of a trade-week deal that saw defender Tony Armstrong depart Adelaide. Originally from Port Pirie, the 192cm utility boasts a long and accurate kick and has the capacity to play as a third tall at either end of the ground.
