The 2011 Crows Club Champion enjoyed another superb season in 2012. Thompson ranked fourth in the AFL for total disposals (651), third in contested possessions (319) and second in clearances (158). He received external recognition for the first time in his brilliant career, named the ruck-rover of the All-Australian team and finishing equal-fourth in the Brownlow Medal with a Club-record 26 votes.

The consistent onballer took his game to another level in 2011, winning the Crows Club Champion award in a landslide and being included in the initial All-Australian squad. The prolific ball winner averaged 31 possessions, ranking second in the competition for total disposals and 10th in clearances. Thompson racked up a record-breaking 51 disposals against Gold Coast in round 22 - the second-most disposals in AFL history.
