The former NSW Scholarship holder was selected to make his AFL debut in caretaker coach Mark Bickley’s first game in charge in round 19 and went on to play another four matches. An exceptional clearance player, the uncompromising 19-year-old impressed with his hardness at the contest and strong defensive action. Elevated to the senior list for season 2012, Riley is working on his endurance with the hope of cementing a regular spot in the Crows midfield.
David Noble: “Aidan was a feel-good story for us this year. We knew we had an exceptional stoppage player, but we asked him to work on his run and spread. You need your midfield guys to be able to win their own ball, but also to get on the move and release out of the stoppage quickly if the ball has been won either way. He was able to do that and develop really well. He certainly didn't look out of place when he played at AFL level. He made a few blues, but that's just inexperience and he was probably also a bit over-eager. We think he's going to put some real heat on for one of those spots in the midfield this season.”
