The ever-reliable key defender had another outstanding year in 2011 and was rewarded for his consistency, finishing equal-third in the Crows Club Champion award. The All Australian full-back regularly stood the opposition’s most dangerous forward in a back six depleted by injuries and retirement and was rarely beaten. His remarkable run of 80 consecutive games came to an end in round 21 when he was ruled out through illness, but his durability remained a feature, averaging more minutes on the field than any other player in the competition.
David Noble: “Ben was up there with Scott Thompson as one of our most consistent players. I can't remember a game where he was beaten. He had an outstanding year and when you talk to the players they say where he's really grown is in his on-field leadership. We're rapt he had a really good year because he works so hard.”
