2010 season:
Season 2010 was all about rehabilitation for Brodie Martin after he injured his knee against Port Adelaide near the end of 2009. Martin returned to the SANFL reserves in July and made his AFL comeback against the Bulldogs in round 19. He was dropped for the next two games but returned in round 22 and was among Adelaide’s best in the win against St Kilda. He collected 28 disposals and nine marks, and more importantly gained plenty of confidence going into 2011.

“There was obviously times when you wonder if it’s all worth it. It’s a hard road and 12 months is a long time to sit back and watch. Once I started playing footy it felt good being back out there again. I was probably left questioning myself a little bit after my first game back, but I definitely don’t have any questions now; I know I’m ready to go. I felt good (in round 22) and I found a bit of space. I knew that if we stuck to our structures that I was going to get my hand on the ball. I was really happy with how I went and it was a great win by the boys.”

David Noble’s 2010 review:
“A lot of guys in their first few games back from a knee reconstruction tend to be a bit safe, but Brodie's last game against St Kilda was outstanding. We were back to the point we were at 12 months ago - excited by what he might be able to contribute. The loss of Goodwin off half-back might be covered by Brodie to some extent.”

Career:
From Meningie on the South Australian coast, Brodie Martin travelled to the city to play on the wing for the Sturt under 19s in 2007, and his late season performances caught the eye of the recruiting team and he won a spot on the rookie list. He played a lot in defence for Sturt and made his SANFL league debut in 2008, showing a lot of promise and earning a Coca Cola Star Search nomination. He returned to the reserves but starred in their Grand Final win against the Eagles winning the medal for best on ground. A string of good performances for Sturt in the SANFL led to his promotion onto the senior list. In the same week he made his AFL debut against St Kilda in round 16 after a late call up. In an impressive performance Martin had 16 possessions. The euphoria of a Showdown win followed the next week with another impressive AFL performance. But an innocuous incident in that game led to scans revealing a complete tear of his ACL, requiring a full knee reconstruction.
