2010 season:
After a breakthrough year in 2009, Knights was crippled with injury and struggled to get onto the field in 2010. A plantar fasciitis injury during the pre-season stalled his start to the year. He returned to Adelaide’s line-up in round three against Melbourne, and against Carlton in round four he had 23 possessions and six marks. He struggled to get on top of his injury again and he missed the next 13 games. He returned for the round 18 clash with the Bulldogs, but again was struck down by injury in round 19 and played only the first quarter. The frustration through injury was difficult to deal with but Knights emerged from the year with a positive outlook. “There have been a lot of negatives to do with the injury and not playing much football, but at the same time you’ve got to draw some positives from it. It puts a few things into perspective and made me appreciate what I have because I really missed playing with the boys and playing AFL football. Whilst it’s been a year that I’d like to forget I definitely won’t walk away from it thinking that I haven’t got anything out of the season.”

David Noble’s 2010 review:
“Had a really frustrating year and probably no one gets more frustrated with injury at our club than Knights. We're extremely glad that he stayed and we'd like to see him get back to the levels he had as that high half-forward last year because we lost a fair bit of that long-range goalkicking power with him out of the side.”

Career:
From the Eastern Ranges, he represented Victoria Metro at the 2003 and 2004 National Bank's AFL Under-18 Championships. Adelaide drafted him at pick No 56 in the 2004 national draft and he made his AFL debut in 2005 after starting the season in the SANFL reserves with Woodville-West Torrens. He played only two games that year and 10 in 2006, but established himself in Adelaide’s midfield in 2007. He had a career best 515 disposals and featured regularly among Adelaide’s best players. Form and injury cost him games in 2008 but he returned to form in the latter part of the season, including 37 possessions and a goal in round 15 against Collingwood. In 2009 Knights settled into the half forward line to become one of the competition’s most explosive forwards. He kicked 19 goals in five games including a hauls of five against Carlton and Essendon and four against Hawthorn. His accuracy outside 50 was a weapon as he kicked 11 goals from outside the arc. He finished the season with 43 goals, the third highest at the club.
