Mackay suffered a shoulder injury in the Crows’ season-opener against Hawthorn and didn’t return to the side until round 15. Despite playing just eight games for the season, Mackay impressed with his run and carry and ability to break the lines, posting the second-highest percentage of inside50ms that led to a goal at the Club. He also ran hard defensively, averaging the second-most pressure acts. The 23-year-old collected a season-high 28 disposals against Gold Coast in round 22 and averaged 16 disposals and three inside50ms a game.

David Noble: “He's one of the top two or three players, who when we lose, really impacts us the most. His capacity to run and carry, break lines and his use of the ball is crucial. He's become adept at winning a combination of contested and uncontested ball. He reads that situation really well. If we can get 20-odd games out of him this season, he could be right up there in the top four or five of our best and fairest.”
